Curriculum Vitae

Physics-trained generalist with about ten years inside a deep-tech photonics and solid-state lighting industry — spanning hands-on R&D, data and analytics, market intelligence, and technical communication. The throughline has always been the same: find the problem, work it through, increasingly with data leading the way.

  • Technical Communication & Marketing

Translate complex technical concepts and IP into clear, well-designed materials — investor- and partner-facing decks, marketing content, and reports.

  • Market & Competitive Intelligence

Research and analyze the competitive landscape and market positioning to inform strategy and IP decisions.

  • Data & Analytics

Designed, built, and maintain a custom data-gathering and analytics pipeline that feeds market analysis and positioning work.

  • Technical & R&D Foundation

Build and assess prototypes, understand the underlying technology, and act as institutional knowledge for past projects and hardware.

  • Design & Documentation

Structure and visually develop technical and business documents, distilling dense ideas into accessible visuals and plain language.

  • Translating the Complex

Making dense technical material clear and compelling for non-expert audiences.

  • Technical Depth + Design Sense

A genuine pairing of technical understanding with structure and visual communication.

  • Trusted to Own Outcomes

Relied on to take high-stakes work from brief to finished product independently.

  • Breadth Across One Role

R&D, data and analytics, market intelligence, communication, and design.

  • Institutional Knowledge

Long-tenured understanding of the technology, products, and project history.

Self-Employed

2016 – Present

Independent technical consulting across R&D, data, market intelligence, and communications, primarily for QuarkStar in deep-tech photonics / solid-state lighting, also for Gaia Photonics.

Recent focus (last ~5 years)

  • Primary recent focus: QuarkStar's Light-Sheets & Filaments IP family — public detail limited given active patent filings
  • Contributed to QuarkStar's winning Project Tango submission for the US Department of Energy L-Prize (Phase 1) (2022)
  • Produce investor-, partner-, and stakeholder-facing materials, translating technical IP into polished, structured documents
  • Built and run a custom data-gathering and analytics pipeline; analysis increasingly central to market positioning and IP arguments
  • Lead competitive and market intelligence research in the photonics / solid-state lighting space
  • Develop marketing and IP-communication materials and visual design

Earlier focus (first ~5 years)

  • R&D, characterization, and data analysis within the engineering group, using lab instrumentation including the Instrument Systems CAS 120 array spectrometer, StellarNet BLACK-Comet UV-VIS spectrometer, and Agilent 34972A data acquisition unit
  • Prototype construction and assessment — soldering, 3D printing (FDM and resin), bench power supplies, and multimeters
  • Small-scale in-house manufacturing & new product introduction (NPI) — part of a 3-person on-site engineering team during the ~2-month accelerated assembly run (late 2019) manufacturing 1,500 linear feet of fixtures for the MFAH Kinder Building installation: tooling, vendor sourcing, documentation, UL certification, temp-staff training and management, and QC/burn-in procedures
  • Retained as institutional knowledge for the technology and its early projects

Gaia Photonics

  • R&D contribution to LED Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) technology that became a commercially certified product — now sold as Airport Lighting Company's L-880(L)/L-881(L) PAPI, FAA/ICAO/CASA/EASA-compliant
  • Horticulture plant-health spectral sensing projects
